PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies ditched the bench and pressed against the dugout railing rooting on Michael Young. That saved them a few steps when they charged toward the basepath to mob Young in their biggest celebration yet in six games under interim manager Ryne Sandberg. Young hit the winning single with one out in the ninth inning after Carlos Ruiz tied the game with a double, pushing the Philadelphia Phillies past the Colorado Rockies 4-3 Wednesday night. "We battled right to the end," Sandberg said. Did they ever. Erik Kratz opened the ninth with a double off Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt (2-4). Pinch runner Casper Wells advanced to third on a grounder and scored the tying run on Ruizs pinch-hit double to left. Jimmy Rollins was walked intentionally and Young followed with the winning single to left. Jake Diekman (1-3) tossed a scoreless ninth for the win. The Phillies stormed out of the dugout and converged on Young. Nolan Arenados two-out single in the eighth inning had put Colorado up 3-2. Arenado made a game-saving stop at third base in Colorados 5-3 win on Tuesday. One game later, he poked an opposite field single to right off reliever Justin De Fratus. Betancourt just couldnt make it stand. "Id take Rafi with a one-run lead every time," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. Ruiz hustled home for the winning run for one of his few bright spots in a down season for the former All-Star catcher. Ruiz, who has only three homers and 16 RBIs, was suspended the first 25 games for using a banned amphetamine. "With everything that happened, it was tough for me," he said. "But thats no excuse. Im just trying to do my best and help the team win." Wilin Rosario homered for Colorado. Chase Utley went deep for the Phillies. De Fratus hit Charlie Blackmon to open the eighth. Michael Cuddyer hit a one-out single and Arenado made it 3-2 after his run-scoring single. After losing three of four at Baltimore, the Rockies have dropped two of three so far in the four-game series against the Phillies. Rockies starter Juan Nicasio allowed two runs -- one earned -- in 5 2-3 innings and worked out of several jams to keep it close. "He stayed away from the big inning that was getting him the first time he was up," Weiss said. "When it starts to slip away, hes been able to close out the inning and not let it get away from him." Phillies starter Cliff Lee remained winless since July 5 and is 0-4 with two no-decisions since beating Atlanta. He kept the Phillies in this one, striking out six and walking none over seven innings. The Phillies blew several opportunities to help out Lee and bust the game open. They stranded runners on second and third when Lee struck out swinging to end the second. They scored only one run after loading the bases with no outs in the fifth. Young grounded into a double play to score one run and make it 2-2. Utley fouled out to end the inning. Nicasio was chased with runners on first and second and two outs in the sixth. Wilton Lopez fanned John Mayberry Jr. on a check swing to escape the jam. They had some timely hitting in the first when Utleys 16th homer of the season staked Lee to a 1-0 lead. Rosario tied it a 1 on a solo shot to right in the second that extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Dexter Fowler ripped an RBI single to left later in the inning for a 2-1 lead, but Domonic Brown threw out Jordan Pacheco at home to end the inning. NOTES: Phillies RHP Roy Halladay (shoulder) is set to make his third rehab start Sunday with Double-A Reading. Halladay also clarified some remarks he made after Tuesdays rehab start that made it seem like he endorsed the move to fire Charlie Manuel and replace him with Sandberg. "I have a lot of respect for Charlie. There were some articles put out that offended me and, Im sure, offended Charlie. And I called him today and talked to him about it," Halladay said. ... The Phillies signed free-agent OF Roger Bernadina and optioned Michael Martinez to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. ... The Rockies send RHP Chad Bettis (0-2, 5.30 ERA) to the mound Thursday against RHP Kyle Kendrick (10-10, 4.36) in the finale of the four-game series. Brett Favre Jersey . On the day after Billy Horschel posted his 12th straight round in the 60s, won his second straight tournament against a world-class field and picked up an additional $10 million bonus as the FedEx Cup champion, Watson was kicking back in his seat at a Kansas City Royals game. Nick Perry Jersey . - Young and old. http://www.shoptheofficialpackers.com/Customized/. - The Seattle Sounders busy off-season continues with the team acquiring defender Chad Marshall from the Columbus Crew in exchange for a 2015 third-round pick and allocation money. Reggie White Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla. David Bakhtiari Jersey . The 25-year-old native of Milford, Conn., has 18 points in 41 games this season. The five-foot-eight 166-pound centre also has 28 points (10-1Cool in 15 games with AHL Oklahoma City.Veteran skip Kevin Koe already has one world title and two national titles on his resume. His next mission is to qualify for the Winter Olympics and hes assembling a new team to try to make it happen. Koe plans to leave the rink he guided to victory at the Tim Hortons Brier for a new lineup that will include Marc Kennedy at third, Ben Hebert at lead and Brent Laing at second. Its an experienced all-star crew that will have its eye on qualification for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. "It was not an easy decision," Koe told The Canadian Press from Calgary. "But I felt the timing was good personally for me -- just with the next Olympic cycle coming up -- to make a change." News of the change broke last month before the team departed for the world championship in China. The moves werent formally announced until the Canadian Curling Association issued a news release Tuesday. Koe and his Calgary-based team of third Pat Simmons, second Carter Rycroft and lead Nolan Thiessen settled for a disappointing fourth-place finish last weekend in Beijing. Theyll play their last event together as a foursome at the April 15-20 Grand Slam Players Championship in Summerside, P.E.I. Koe discussed his plans with his teammates last month after they won the Brier in Kamloops, B.C. He admitted it was a "difficult conversation," but doesnt think it affected their play overseas. "I think the guys would say the same thing," Koe said. "If anything, we wanted to win a world championship for each other that much more." The period right after an Olympic Games is always an interesting one on the curling scene. Not everyone is necessarily keen to make another four-year commitment for a variety of factors, including age, jobs and family commitments. Some teams are locked in and ready for the next quadrennial while other players need to move quickly to position themselves before potential vacancies are filled. Qualification events for the 2017 Canadian Curling Trials wont be far off once the new season begins so teams will want to find their rhythm as soon as possible. "I thiink its more a function of just the way curling has gone," Koe said.dddddddddddd"Most years curling changes happen now after an Olympic year. Thats just the nature of the beast I guess. Teams get together to make that big run. "It was no disrespect to the guys. I dont think teams can stay together forever. Our team wasnt going to be staying together with Carter slowing down. So those are just some of the reasons that went into my decision." Rycroft, whose wife is pregnant, had originally planned to take time next season off. However, Thiessen said that plan would be modified so they can enter the 2014 Canada Cup, the 2015 World Financial Group Continental Cup and be the first Team Canada in the history of the Brier. Simmons, Rycroft and Thiessen will name their new skip at a later date. "Teams just kind of run their course," Thiessen said from Edmonton. "We probably -- even though we won the Brier this year -- we were starting to get towards the line of maybe running its course. Kevin had a great opportunity. Thats a great team that hes setting up. "Everyones got to do whats best for them and thats what he did. He went and (will) play with those guys and I mean, who wouldnt? Its three great players that he went to play with." Koe won his other national title and lone world title in 2010 with Rycroft, Thiessen and Blake MacDonald. Simmons later replaced MacDonald but the core of the team spent eight years together. The team members said they will remain good friends, adding next weeks competition will be emotional for all involved. Kennedy and Hebert won Olympic gold at the 2010 Games in Vancouver with skip Kevin Martin, who supported the lineup change. Martin has said he plans to decide on his curling future by the end of June. Laing won world titles with veteran Ontario skip Glenn Howard in 2007 and 2012. "At the end of day with everything else considered, it was just too great of an opportunity to turn down for me," Laing said from Barrie, Ont. Howard wasnt available for comment. Hes expected to name Laings replacement in the coming weeks.
