GREEN BAY, Wis. Adidas Tiger Williams Jersey . -- Get a flow chart ready to follow the Packers quarterback situation. The old backup is now the backup again. Hes taking the place of the guy who was the backup, who played for a series before he was injured and gave way to the former third-stringer. All this after Aaron Rodgers got hurt. Amid that instability, is a picture of calm, at least at his locker Wednesday. Former practice squad player Scott Tolzien is keeping things simple as he prepares to make his first career NFL start, Sunday at the New York Giants. "Its the same game that you played in high school, in youth football ... Youre trying to move the football, take care of the football, and finish with drives with a score or kick," Tolzien said. "So you try to minimize (the) impact that the game has, and just treat it as the same game as you were a kid." Coach Mike McCarthy has said Rodgers might be a couple weeks away from returning from a fractured left collarbone. Seneca Wallace is on injured reserve after hurting his groin last week against the Eagles, giving Tolzien to impress coach Mike McCarthy. Now, Matt Flynns back this week to back up Tolzien. And yeah, thats a little weird to Flynn that Rodgers isnt calling the shots. "Yeah, I dont think anyone will ever get used to that," Flynn said. "Hes just been a solid, consistent guy. I think its weird for everybody, probably, to prepare, get through a game and prepare without him." Just another in the seemingly endless list of challenges encountered by coach Mike McCarthy in an injury-filled season. And stop saying that word that begins with "I," please! "Were not going to need (Flynn), OK? Ive had enough of this bad karma about quarterbacks getting injured," McCarthy said. "So Scotts going to play the whole game" Sunday. Tolzien earned the shot after playing relatively well in relief of Wallace considering he had only a handful of snaps the previous week, throwing for 280 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in the 27-13 loss to the Eagles. McCarthy and Rodgers have been impressed with Tolziens work ethic. He was signed before the start of the season after being released by the 49ers, and Tolzien recounted how he used to sleep on the coach at the team facility after putting in long hours getting ready. Hes not doing that in Green Bay, but hes apparently just as hard-working and detailed. "He eats well because hes here all the time, so Im not worried about him," McCarthy said. "The man loves it, and youve got to appreciate his work ethic. Its refreshing, and its good for everybody, and hes going about it the right way." Maybe its because of his blue-collar Midwestern sensibility. Tolzien is from Illinois, and he played college ball at Wisconsin. This is big news in the Badger Country. There are more demands on his time as the starting quarterback. But hes keeping things in perspective. "I think my job right now is to put the blinders on, have some tunnel vision and focus on the task at hand," Tolzien said. Thats getting the offence ready for the Giants and ending the Packers two-game skid. Now he can draw on Flynn for advice, too. Flynn owns a share of the franchise single-game passing record of 480, set the last time he played in Green Bay, on Jan. 1, 2012, against the Lions. He signed with the Seahawks as a free agent the following off-season but lost his job to Russell Wilson (another former Wisconsin quarterback). Seattle traded Flynn to the Oakland in the off-season. He was cut by the Raiders in October then signed by the Bills before being released by Buffalo last week -- on the same day that Rodgers got hurt. Both McCarthy and Flynn have said the quarterbacks arm is fine. Flynn said that while things have changed with the running game since he was last in Green Bay, hes right at home with the passing playbook. "I feel confident that Ill be back fluent in this offence real soon," he said. Notes: Center Evan Dietrich-Smith (knee) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday. McCarthy said RT Don Barclay (knee) was getting better, and was waiting to get fitted with a brace to return to practice. ... LB Clay Matthews practiced without the "club" over his right hand, but still sported protection on his injured thumb. Adidas Peter Budaj Jersey . According to Dave Stubbs of The Montreal Gazette, preliminary talks have begun between Markov - an unrestricted free agent this summer - and general manager Marc Bergevin. Adidas Kings Jerseys . The Wild lead the Northwest Division and look to get back into the win column after having a season-high seven-game winning streak cut short with Tuesdays 2-1 loss at Winnipeg in the finale of a five-game road trip (4-1-0). http://www.kingshockeypro.com/adidas+marian+gaborik+kings+jersey . -- Jane Kish stopped all 25 shots she faced as the Weyburn Gold Wings blanked the Sudbury Lady Wolves 3-0 on Friday to advance to the gold-medal game at the Esso Cup. CLEVELAND -- Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is asking Cleveland fans to be patient as he looks to replace the coach he fired after one season. With criticism growing as the search drags on, Haslam sent a letter to fans Wednesday in which he explained the Browns "methodical" hunt for a "strong coach." Haslam fired Rob Chudzinski last month following a 4-12 season, forcing the Browns to look for their seventh full-time coach since 1999 and fourth in six years. The owner said the team has spoken to a "number of outstanding candidates" and indicated he and CEO Joe Banner will meet with assistant coaches currently in the NFL playoffs. "We have purposefully been very methodical in our approach," Haslam said in the letter released by the team and posted on its website. "We believe it is very important to stay disciplined to this process and to interview all of the candidates on our list. We are strongly committed to finding the right person to coach the Cleveland Browns." The Browns were the first team to fire a coach after the season, and theyll be the last to hire one now that the Minnesota Vikings are completing a contract with former Cincinnati defensive co-ordinator Mike Zimmer, who interviewed for the Cleveland opening a year ago. When Chudzinski was dismissed, Haslam made it clear the Browns would take as long as needed to find a "proven winner." But as days turned to weeks and several candidates took jobs elsewhere or other names surfaced and were quickly dismissed, a perception took hold that the front office was not on the same page. There have also been rumblings that the Browns have been spurned by candidates and are fixated on hiring Denver offensive co-ordinator Adam Gase. Haslams unexpected letter seemed to be the teams attempt to quell some of the outside noise. Cleveland has interviewed six known candidates and the team intends to meet with Gase when the Broncos season ends. Gase was the first candidate contacted by the Browns after Chudzinski was let go. The 35-year-old Gase told the Browns and Vikings he wanted to wait until after the season. Although Gase appears to be the front-runner, theres no guarantee hell be hired by the Browns -- or if he even wants the job. Adidas Tanner Pearson Jersey. Gases interview will likely take place soon after the Broncos are finished playing. That could be as soon as Sunday or as late as Feb. 3, if Denver advances to the Super Bowl. Haslam said the Browns, who havent been to the AFC playoffs since 2002, will remain patient. "We are prepared to wait as long as necessary because this is a very important decision," said Haslam, Clevelands owner since 2012. "Everyone in our organization is committed to finding the right leader for our team." The lingering search has created the appearance that the job is not appealing. Haslam, though, insists the Cleveland coaching spot is a "very attractive position." "We have one of the youngest teams in the League, a roster that includes five Pro Bowlers," he said. "In addition, we have more salary-cap room than all but one NFL team. We also have three of the top 35 picks in the upcoming draft and five of the top 83 selections." The Browns also interviewed Seattle defensive co-ordinator Dan Quinn, who could get a second meeting when the Seahawks season ends. New England co-ordinator Josh McDaniels and Arizona defensive co-ordinator Todd Bowles removed their names from consideration. Ken Whisenhunt met with the Browns before he was hired by Tennessee, and Green Bay quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo interviewed with Cleveland but was hired Tuesday as the New York Giants offensive co-ordinator. Former Tennessee coach Mike Munchak met with Haslam and Browns CEO Joe Banner this week. During the Browns search, other prominent names emerged, including Oklahomas Bob Stoops and former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel. However, neither is believed to be on Clevelands radar. Its also possible the team will ask to meet with San Francisco offensive co-ordinator Greg Roman. As they look for a new coach, the Browns have granted permission for offensive co-ordinator Norv Turner to interview with the Vikings, and theyve told defensive co-ordinator Ray Horton he can interview for the same position in Tennessee.
