On Saturday Youth Quenton Nelson Jersey , he got the Indianapolis Colts' offense in sync, bounced back from yet another big hit and led them to a go-ahead touchdown before leaving in the second quarter.Yes, five days after a mediocre performance in his first home start in more than 19 months, Luck looked much sharper as the Colts hung on for a 23-17 victory over San Francisco."I really wanted to feel like we created some type of rhythm and we did," he said. "We put a sustained drive together, and the other ones, we made some mistakes. But getting in rhythm was something I really wanted to see."He was in good company.Coach Frank Reich and Colts fans also wanted to see improvement in what's likely Luck's final action of the preseason. The results were better.Luck scrambled for a 15-yard run on third-and-13 then threw a 15-yard TD pass to a leaping Eric Ebron on the next play to give Indy a 7-3 lead midway with 8:47 left in the first half. He finished 8 of 10 with 90 yards and took one sack.Christine Michael's 1-yard TD plunge late in the third quarter made it 14-9, a lead Indy never relinquished.Otherwise, it was a tough day for the Colts, who struggled to establish the run — and couldn't stop San Francisco's physical ground game in the first half."They did a nice job running the ball and just like offensively in the run game, we need to improve defensively in the run game," Reich said after his defense allowed 126 yards rushing.Somehow, the Colts kept the 49ers out of the end zone until the final minutes and took advantage of Jacoby Brissett's 53-yard pass play to Seantavius Jones late in the third quarter. Two plays later, Michael scored to give Indy a 14-9 lead.It was enough to give Luck his first home win since Jan. 1, 2017.Jimmy Garoppolo, meanwhile, couldn't get the ball into the end zone. He was 9 of 19 for 135 yards, leading the 49ers to only two field goals before departing in the third quarter. Alfred Morris carried 17 times for 84 yards, doing the bulk of his work in the first half.Former Colts receiver Pierre Garcon had two catches for 62 yards."We ran the ball very well Youth Braden Smith Jersey , but I was just saying this to the team — running the ball well doesn't (automatically) get you points," 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. "We were 0 for 3 in the red zone."Robbie Gould's 32-yard field goal gave the 49ers a 9-7 lead late in the third quarter. But all San Francisco could manage the rest of the game was Nick Mullens' 1-yard TD run and Jeremy McNichols' 2-point conversion run with 4:07 left, spoiling the return of cornerback Richard Sherman ."There were some good plays, there were some other plays I felt rusty on, but overall I felt pretty good," said Sherman, who is coming back from a torn Achilles tendon. "I would have preferred (defending a deep ball)."Ebron caught five passes for 54 yards for Indy, which got starting safety Malik Hooker back. He missed the second half of his rookie season after tearing two ligaments in his right knee.NATIONAL ANTHEMWhen the 49ers visited Indianapolis in October, nearly two dozen players demonstrated by kneeling during the national anthem — prompting Vice President Mike Pence to walk out of Lucas Oil Stadium. This time, nobody took a knee while the anthem played. The only demonstration came from San Francisco receiver Marquise Goodwin, who raised his fist again.INJURIES49ers: Linebacker Reuben Foster did not return after being diagnosed with a concussion in the third quarter, and cornerback Jimmie Ward left in the first half with a quadriceps injury. Shanahan said he doesn't expect to Foster in the preseason finale. Receiver Marquise Goodwin also left in the first half with a hand injury but returned. San Francisco played without running backs Jerick McKinnon (knee), Matt Breida (shoulder) and Joe Williams (ribs) or backup offensive linemen Erik Magnuson (hamstring) and Gary Gilliam.Colts: Defensive end John Simon (neck), safety Ronald Martin (shoulder), offensive lineman Denzelle Good (knee) and safety T.J. Green (hamstring) all left in the second half. None of those four retuned. Indy was already missing cornerbacks Quincy Wilson (hand) and Nate Hairston (hamstring), linebacker Anthony Walker (groin), defensive linemen Denico Autry (lower leg) and Tyquan Lewis (foot), running backs Marlon Mack (hamstring), Robert Turbin (ankle) , newly acquired back Brandon Oliver and Tion Green, and receivers James Wright (knee) and K.J. Brent (knee).UP NEXT49ers: Wrap up the preseason at home Thursday against the Los Angeles Chargers.Colts: Close out the preseason at Cincinnati.State of the AFC South heading into week two The Colts’ loss to the Bengals in week one was a major disappointment. It wasn’t that anyone expected them to absolutely win the game, we entered it with modest expectations for their play. However, they were in command of the game and let it slip away, ending on a hope-crushing turnover. It was a tough way to lose your first game. The good news is, 2 of the other 3 AFC South teams lost their openers as well, so the Colts are in good company within the division. So let’s take a look around the AFC South and see how our divisional opponents fared in week one.Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0)Photo by Jeff Zelevansky/Getty ImagesOur first stop is with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars are widely viewed as a team in “win now” mode and they have one of the most complete teams with the exception of one position. Unfortunately, that position is quarterback. This fact was evident in their week one matchup against the New York Giants. They punted on seven straight drives, and simply struggled to get any real offense going. The saving grace for the team was that they were playing a Giants team that, despite having several stars on its offense, could not overcome the Jaguars’ smothering defense. In fact, if not for a Myles Jack interception that was returned for a touchdown, this game would have been a loss as well. One area of concern is that on an already stagnant offense, the Jags lost their star running back, Leonard Fournette, to a hamstring injury during this game. The team is optimistic that he will be able to return quickly to action, but the loss of their only significant weapon on the offense will be tough to overcome, even with a nasty defense. Having said all that, the Jaguars went on the road and got a win in tough conditions. That is what good teams do White Joe Haeg Jersey , and they are definitely a good team. Time will tell if their flaws are too difficult to overcome.Tennessee Titans (0-1)Photo by Marc Serota/Getty ImagesThe Tennessee Titans are in big trouble. It is tough to make sweeping conclusions after just one week of play, but the Titans lost three of their four most important pieces on the offensive side of the ball on Sunday. In what was a very odd contest punctuated by delays due to inclement weather, the Titans dropped a game to the Miami Dolphins in week one. A loss is bad, but the injuries suffered by the team are worse. Marcus Mariota left the game after sustaining an injury to his elbow. Mariota simply struggles to stay on the field and healthy, and if that injury affects his play or lingers for any amount of time, it is a problem for this team. Tight end Delanie Walker, arguably the best tight end in the division and the Titans’ best offensive passing weapon, was lost for the season after sustaining an ankle injury. Additionally, Taylor Lewan, the Titans excellent starting left tackle was knocked out of the game by a nasty blindside block that landed him in concussion protocol. If Lewan isn’t healthy, that is a major blow to the offensive line that was already missing Jack Conklin at right tackle. The Titans’ schedule is not going to be forgiving over the next couple games either, as they face the Texans at home, then the Jaguars on the road, before coming home to face the Eagles. All three of these teams have defenses that would love nothing more than to tee off on a battered Titans’ offensive line. Houston Texans (0-1)Photo by Maddie Meyer/Getty ImagesSpeaking of trouble, the Houston Texans may be in it too. Why? Because they entered the season as arguably the team with the worst offensive line in the NFL. That was before they lost their starting right tackle, Seantrel Henderson, for the season with a broken ankle.Behind that line, second year quarterback Deshaun Watson struggled. He looked very much like a player who was returning from injury, and he’s going to get hit a lot. New England’s defense is not even close to as good as what the Texans will face throughout the season White Chester Rogers Jersey , and they made the offensive line look as bad as it is. Personally, I don’t think Watson will play as poorly all season as he did Sunday. He has talent, and that will come through. However, he was very fortunate in many of his passes last season, and it would not be surprising if he regressed some this season, especially given the pass rush he will face given the line’s dearth of talent. There is enough talent on this team to get some wins, but they cannot afford any more injuries to their offensive line if they hope to have any kind of offense, or keep their quarterback healthy.Where do the Colts stand by comparison?I actually think the Colts are in a good place comparatively. The Colts are very likely to be the only team in the AFC South who can consistently produce any significant offense. They also have a young and exciting group of defensive players who will make some plays but who will undoubtedly make a lot of mistakes as well. However, the other teams in the South have got some really critical divisional matches early on, and the Colts play only the Texans prior to their bye week. That gives those young defenders a lot of time to learn and grow throughout the season before hitting that critical part of the season.Perhaps that will matter very little. The Colts need to ultimately start winning games to be relevant, and if the defense doesn’t play better, and the offense goes stagnant in the second half, they won’t win many games. It seems that much has been made about the rise of the AFC South as a new power, but at this point it may be prudent to pump the brakes on that sentiment.
